Frequently Asked Questions

  • You can reach us anytime via our contact page or email. We aim to respond as quickly as possible.

  • It is always best to schedule your trip as far ahead of time as possible so as to ensure the dates you would like are available, however if you are making a last minute, spontaneous trip, it is never a bad idea to call I might be available!!

  • Shorelunch is one of the best ways to fully experience Lake of the Woods and the beauty and variety it has to offer. If you would like to do a shore lunch, because we will be on a Canadian Island, we will need to call CBP shortly after we leave the dock in the morning and report our arrival in Canada. We will fish the morning until about 11:30, then find a place on shore to park the boat and cook the fish we caught that morning. A shore lunch menu typically consists of walleye, fried potatoes, and baked beans. If you have allergies or a special request, just ask and I will see what I can do to accommodate!

  • Unless specifically requested, we will be fishing in Canadian waters. You will need an Ontario fishing license as well as the outdoors card that you buy when you buy your license. You can use the link below to learn more information and to buy the license and outdoor card.

You can buy either the conservation license, or the sport license, both are acceptable for our purposes, the only difference is the take home limit for a sport license is 4 walleyes, whereas the take home limit for the conservation license is only 2, hence the price difference.

  • Rods, tackle, jigs, and life jackets are provided. If you have a favorite rod or jig you are more than welcome to bring your own gear and use it but try to keep it minimal so as to maximize the space in the boat to fish. You should bring some drinks and maybe some snacks but remember NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED IN CANADA. Also if you have rain gear, bring it no matter the day, on Lake of the Woods you never know when a storm will pop up!

  • Gas at the Northwest Angle isn’t cheap. We typically will use 10-20 gallons of gas per day of fishing depending on weather conditions, fishing patters, schedule, etc. You can expect anything from $50-$150 in gas expenses per day.

  • One of the best things about fishing on the Canadian side of Lake of The Woods is that there is always an island to hide behind. Unless the conditions are unsafe, we can usually still get out for a couple hours to fish. We will watch the forecast the night before and I will be in touch as soon as possible if there is a chance that we would have to cancel. Always bring rain gear, you never know when you might need it!

  • To ensure trips are filled, I only require a down payment of $300 if someone else asks about the same dates that you have booked, down payments can be made through my Venmo account or mailing a check. Down payments are then taken off the total amount for the trip. If you have made a down payment and choose to cancel your trip for any reason, the down payment is non-refundable. I take cash, check, or Venmo and any tips for a job well done are always appreciated!!
